Examples of field operations

Over the years, SORECAL has carried out numerous maritime operations in New Caledonia and the South Pacific.

Through these concrete examples, we demonstrate our ability to meet the technical, human, and geographical challenges specific to each project.

Our qualified crews, tailored resources, and responsiveness make SORECAL a reliable partner for safe, controlled, and mission-specific offshore operations — serving both public and private stakeholders in the maritime sector.

Material transport for the Futuna wharf project

As part of the renovation works on the Futuna wharf, we ensured the maritime transport of construction materials from New Caledonia.

This logistical operation enabled the delivery of essential equipment to support the smooth progress of the project, in a remote island area with limited access and specific local constraints.

Assistance to the grounded container ship Kea Trader

We were the first responders following the grounding of the vessel Kea Trader on Durand Reef, a remote area off the coast of New Caledonia.
To address this emergency situation, we adapted one of our barges to evacuate 600 m³ of heavy fuel oil, while also handling the recovery and transfer of the majority of containers to the Port of Noumea.
Our teams were fully committed to preventing any risk of pollution.
This operation showcased our unwavering commitment to acting swiftly and precisely in critical situations, ensuring the safety of operations and the protection of the environment.

Docking Operation of SLN’s Temporary Floating Power Plant (CAT)

The docking of SLN’s Temporary Floating Power Plant (CAT), positioned in Noumea’s harbor, was carried out with the utmost precision and in full compliance with current safety standards. This complex operation involved several key steps:

  • towing the CAT from the semi-submersible vessel that delivered it to New Caledonia to the Noumea port dock

  • conducting technical studies and installing the 8 mooring lines for its permanent berth

  • final docking from the port to its designated position

This critical intervention ensured the proper positioning of the facility, securing the continuity of power supply to the Doniambo metallurgical plant.

Support for the HOPE Scientific Mission

We provided technical and logistical support during the deployment mission of the HOPE buoy, an oceanographic device installed off the coast of New Caledonia.

This buoy, designed to study the capacity of tropical oceans to absorb carbon dioxide, plays a crucial role in understanding the mechanisms related to climate change.

Support for the Moselle Port Development Works

We provided support for the port operations carried out at Port Moselle by assisting with pile driving and the installation of mooring buoys intended for anchoring new pontoons.
This technical intervention aimed to expand and strengthen the infrastructure of one of Nouméa’s marinas.

Mining equipment transport to isolated centers

As part of our support to the mining industry, we provide maritime transport of heavy equipment to isolated industrial sites throughout New Caledonia.
Committed to serving remote areas, we ensure logistical continuity even in locations with limited accessibility.

Replacement of a tugboat in Papeete

As part of a continuity of service operation, we provided temporary replacement of a tugboat at the port of Papeete, French Polynesia.
The tugboat Cyathea has been deployed for a full year to ensure uninterrupted towing operations throughout the local vessel’s downtime.
